Error and maintenance messages C

As with any sophisticated office product, error and maintenance messages may be displayed. The

most common error and maintenance messages are shown below.

Error Message Cause Action
Access Error The device is removed from the
USB direct interface while the
data is processing.
Press Stop/Exit. Reinsert the device and try to
print with direct print or PictBridge.
Calibrate Calibration failed. Press BlackStart or Color Start and try
again.
Do one of the following:
Turn off the machine’s power switch. Wait
a few seconds, then turn it on again.
Put in a new drum unit. (See Replacing the
drum uniton page 122.)
Put in a new belt unit. (See Replacing the
belt uniton page 129.)
Put in a new waste toner box. (See
Replacing the waste toner boxon
page133.)
If the problem continues, call your Brother
dealer.
Cartridge Error
Put the Black (K)
Toner Cartridge back
in.

The toner cartridge is not installed
properly.
Pull out the drum unit, take out the toner
cartridge that is indicated on the LCD, and put
it back into the drum unit again.

Belt Unit
It is time to replace the belt unit. Replace the belt unit. (See Replacing the belt
uniton page 128.)
Change Parts
Drum
The drum unit is near the end of
its life.
Use the drum unit until you have a print quality
problem; then replace the drum unit with a new
one.

The drum unit counter was not
reset when a new drum was
installed.
Press Menu, 6, 6, and then a or b to choose
Drum. Press OK and press 1 to reset the drum
unit counter.

Fuser Unit
It is time to replace the fuser unit. Call your Brother dealer to purchase the fuser
unit.

Laser Unit
It is time to replace the laser unit. Call your Brother dealer to purchase the laser
unit.
