Before the First Use
To reduce risk of fire or electric shock, do not immerse cord, plug or appliance in water or any other liquid.
1.Before preparing coffee in your new coffee maker, thoroughly clean the removable water reservoir, carafe, carafe lid and removable filter holder in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Replace clean disassembled parts. NOTE: Do not dry the inside of the removable water reservoir with a cloth because this will leave a residue of lint and may clog the coffee maker.
2.Replace the removable filter holder into the coffee maker. The pause and serve flow valve, located on the bottom of the filter holder, sits down into the cavity. Press the filter holder down into place. The filter holder lid will be fully closed when properly assembled.
3.Clean the inside of the coffee maker by brewing 2 full carafes of clean, cool water. (See To Brew Coffee Immediately on page 10.) Do not place any filter or coffee in the removable filter holder for this initial cleaning.
NOTE: At the end of the first brewing cycle, press the START/ CANCEL button to turn the coffee maker OFF and wait 10 minutes for the appliance to cool. Empty carafe and replace onto base plate/warming plate. Add fresh cool water to the water reservoir. Press the START/CANCEL button to turn the coffee maker ON. BREW will appear on the digital display as the coffee maker begins to heat; brew a second carafe. Discard water.
4.Assemble the charcoal filter. Open the filter cage on the bottom of the handle and insert the charcoal filter. Seat the charcoal filter assembly over the water valve on the base of the water reservoir.
5.Your coffee maker is now ready for use.
