HDR (High Dynamic Range) is a popular branch of photography gaining acceptance over the last few years particularly. CHDK has made this much easier for the low end because of RAW capture (HDR from a single RAW), and bracketing (Multiple shots with stepped Av, etc).

There are now many applications that have been written for HDR processing, and Photoshop® can process HDR as well.
