Glossary

This is a glossary of some of the basic terms used frequently in this chapter. The documentation for your wireless router may also contain a glossary you can refer to.

Access Point

A wireless access point (WAP) is a device that allows wireless devices, like your camcorder, to connect to a wired network (includ- ing to the Internet) using the Wi-Fi standard. In most cases, this will be your wireless router.

IP Address

Exclusive number assigned to each device connected to the net- work.

SSID

Service Set Identifier. This is simply the public name of a Wi-Fi net- work.

WPS

Wi-Fi Protected Setup. Standard for easy and secure setup of Wi-Fi networks created by the Wi-Fi Alliance.
