Mounting
Atest load that can be plugged intothe AC receptacle on
theinverter for short term testingat a low power level.
Thefollowing cables are recommended for testing low
powerlevel test loads only.
TestLoad Minimum
Power CableSize
100W #16 AWG copper
250W #12 AWG copper
500W #8 AWGcopper
Tocheckyour inverter’sperformancebefore installation:
1.Turn theinverter off (seepage 14
fordetails).If the power sourceis
aDC power supply,switch itoff
aswell.
2.Connect cablesto power input
terminals(seepage 8 for details).
3.Connect cablesto power source
(seepage 8 fordetails).
4.Check to makesure all
connectionsaresecure.
5.Turn theinverter on. Ifthe
powersourceis a DC power
supply,switchit on first.
6.Plug in the testload.
Theinvertershould supply power
tothe load. Ifthe inverter is not
workingproperly,referto the
troubleshootingguideon page18
orpower and protectionindicators
sectionon page16.
InstallationRequirements
Theinverter must be installed in an area that meets
allof the following requirements:
A. Dry
Donot place in an area where water can drip
orsplash on the inverter.
B. Cool
Ambientair temperature should be between 30°F
and105°F (0°C and 40°C). The cooler the better.
C. Ventilate
Allowat least one inch (three cm)of clearance around
theinverter for proper airflow.Make sure that ventilation
openingson the ends of the unit arenot obstructed.
D.Safe
Donot install the inverter in the same compartment
asa battery or in any compartment that contains
flammableliquids such as gasoline.
E. Close to Battery
Installunit as close to battery as possible (without
beingin the same compartment) to minimize the
lengthof cable required to connect the inverter to
thebattery. It is better and cheaper to run longer
ACwires than longer DC wires (cables).
CAUTIONToavoid fire, do not cover or obstruct
ventilationopenings. Do notinstall inverter in a zero-
clearancecompartment. Overheatingmay result.
CAUTIONThe inverter must only be connected to
batterieswith a nominal output voltage of 12 volts.
Itwill not work with a 6 volt battery, and will be
damagedif it is connected to a 16 volt battery.
