PowerConsumption
Foreach piece of equipmentyou will be operatingfrom the
inverter,youmust determine the battery’sreserve capacity
(howlong the batterycan deliver a specific amountof
current— in automotivebatteries, usually25 ampere)
orampere-hour capacity(a measure of how manyamperes
abattery can deliverfor a specified length oftime).
Example– Reservecapacity: a battery with a reserve
capacityof 180 minutes can deliver 25 ampere for
180minutes before it is completely discharged.
Example– Ampere-hourcapacity:a battery with an
ampere-hourcapacity of 100 ampere-hours can deliver
5ampere for 20 hoursbefore it is completelydischarged.
Todeterminethe batteryampere-hour
capacityyourequire:
1.Determine how many watts each piece of equipment
consumes. This can normally be found on the product
label. If only the current draw is given, multiply the
currentdraw by 115 to get the watt consumption.
2.Estimate the time(in hours) that each pieceof equipment
willbe running betweenbattery charging cycles.
3.Calculate the total watt-hours of energy consumption
(powerx operating time) using the average power
consumptionand the total estimated running time
(inhours). Power x OperatingTime = Watt-Hours.
4.Divide the watt-hoursby 10 to determine howmany
powersupply’s(12 volt) ampere-hourswill be consumed.
GroundWiring
Thereis a screw on the rear panel for Chassis Ground.
Thisis to connect the chassis of the inverter to ground.
TheChassis GroundScrew must be connected to a
groundingpoint,which will vary dependingon where
theunit is installed. Use a #8 AWG copper wire
(preferablywithgreen/yellow insulation)to connect
thechassis ground screw to the grounding point.
Ina vehicle: Connectthe ChassisGroundto the
chassisof thevehicle.
Ina boat: Connect to the Boat GroundingSystem.
Ina fixedlocation:Connectthe ChassisGround Screwto
earthgroundby connectingto a groundrod (ametal
rodpounded into the earth) or other proper service
entranceground.
