CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION DRIVE

BELT

Severalcomponentsmustbe removedand specialtoolsusedinorder to changethe tractor'stransmissiondrivebelt. Seea Searsorother qualifiedservicedealerto havethe transmissiondrivebelt replaced.

CHANGING THE DECK BELT

Shutthe engineoff andremoveignitionkeybeforeremovingthe cuttingblade(s)for sharpeningor replacement.Protectyourhands usingheavygloveswhengraspingbladesand pulleys.

TheV-beltsfoundon yourtractorarespeciallydesignedto engage anddisengagesafely.A substitute(non-OEM)Vibeltcan bedanger- ous by notdisengagingcompletely.Fora properworkingmachine, use factoryapprovedbeltsas listedin the PartsListof thismanual..

All beltsonyourtractoraresubjectto wearandshouldbereplacedif any signsof wear arepresent. Tochangeor replacethe deck belton yourtractor,proceedas follows:

1.Removethe deckas instructedinthe CuttingDecksection.

2.Removethe beltcoversfromtheouter spindlesby removingthe

hexwasherscrewsthatfastenthemto the deck.SeeFigure15.

Loosen,but donot removethe belt keeperrodon the deck idler pulleylocatednearthe backof the deck. SeeFigure15.

4.Removethe deckbeltfromaroundthe threespindlepulleysand the twodeck idlerpulleys.

NOTE:Theidlerpulleysmayhaveto beloosened,butnot removed,in orderto removethebelt fromaroundthem.
