4
Using the enclosure mode switch, select your mode of operation, either unified or split mode (see
Figure1-7 for switch positions).
5
Connect power to the power supplies.
NOTICE: To safeguard your storage enclosure against power problems, connect the AC power cable to a
protected power supply, such as a UPS, line conditioner, or surge protector. If possible, connect the two power
supplies to different circuits.
6
Turn on the on/off switches on all power supply/cooling fan modules (see Figure1-8).
7
Turn on power to the host system.
8
Check the LED indicators on the front and back of the storage
enclosure
. If any amber fault indicators
are illuminated, see “Troubleshooting Your Enclosure.”
Using Your Enclosure to Expand a Dell PowerVault MD3000 Enclosure
You can also connect your enclosure behind an MD3000 enclosure to expand MD3000 capacity. The
MD3000 supports the addition of up to two MD1000 expansion enclosures. This expansion increases the
maximum physical disk pool of the MD3000 to 45 3.5" SAS physical disks.
As described in the following subsections, you can expand an MD3000 enclosure with either a new
MD1000 (shipped in April 2007 or later) or with an MD1000 expansion enclosure that was previously
configured in a direct-attach solution with a PERC 5/E system.
