THINNING
YourSpray Stationis suppliedwith aviscosity cup.Viscosity isa technicalterm usedto indicateif aproduct isvery thinor verythick. Ifthin, the
viscosityis saidto below, whileif verythick theviscosity issaid tobe high.Viscosity ismeasured inseconds. Inorder tospray somematerials they
needto be“thinned” (diluted).Thinning isvery importantwhenspraying. Mostpaints etcare suppliedready forbrush applicationand mayneedto be
thinned(diluted) forspraying purposes.
TheSpray Station 5500 has a viscosity rating of 160 seconds. If the paint has emptied the viscosity cup in less than 160 seconds then you will
notneed tothin yourpaint ormaterial. Ifit isabove thisthen thinningwill berequired.
Yourspray station comes equipped with a viscosity cup, which will help you determine the thickness of the paint. To test a liquids viscosity, dip the
viscositycup intothe materialand fillup tothe top, lift freeand timehow longit takesfor thepaint toempty theviscosity cup- stopwhen the
continuous flow ends from the bottom of the cup.The time determines the material viscosity and the need for the paint to be thinned before being
sprayed(Fig.1).
Ifthe paintrequires thinning, start with a10% dilutionof thepaint. Todo this, fill a1litre container withthe requiredpaint. Theviscosity cupsupplied
withthe unitholds 1/10of alitre, blockthe holein theviscosity cupand fillup withthe requiredthinner. Addthe thinnerto thepaint andstir.
Ifthe paint requires further thinning, dilute the paint by another 5% (5% will be equal to half a viscosity cup) with the required thinner and measure
theviscosity, ifthe paintis notat it'srecommended viscosity, repeat theabove step.
Followthe manufacturerʼsguide for thinningin conjunctionwith aspray gun.If indoubt pleasecontact themanufacturers ofthe paint. The viscosity
cupwill helpyoudetermine thecorrect thicknessofthe paint.Paintis “thinned”by addingthesubstance whichthepaint isbased upon.Ifa waterbased
paintthen wateris added,if oilbased thenmineral spirit.
Assome paints, wood preservatives and other sprayable materials contain particles that have differing qualities, please ensure that when filling the
paintcontainer ofthe spraygun, thatthe paintis filteredthrough eithera funnelwith afilter onit orthrough nylontights orstockings. Thiswill ensure
thatno largeparticles enterthepaint container,so preventingblockagesand providingyou withtroublefree spraying.Ensure thataface mask, gloves
andgoggles areworn atall timeswhen spraying.

ensureyou donot spraythose areasyou wishto remainuntouched.
Fillthe paintcontainer withthe materialto besprayed. Takecare notto overfill.
Takethe spraygun unitand withthe ClampLever (22)turned fullyanti-clockwise, locatethe spraygun unitinto thepaint container.Rotate the
containeruntil the2 pinslocate intothe recessesin theYoke (23).Now turnthe clamplever clockwiseto securethe containerto thelid. Donot over
tighten.
Placethe motor unit onto a clean floor space, free from any loose debris, liquids or dust sheets that could block the motor inlet. Uncoil the air hose
andattach itto theback ofthe spraygun andthe otherend tothe SprayStation. Uncoilthe powercord fromthe baseof theunit andplug in.
ALWAYSKEEP THE MOTOR UNIT AS FARAWAY FROM THE SPRAYINGAREA AS POSSIBLE TO PREVENT PAINT CONTAMINATINGTHE
MOTOR.MASK ANY AREA YOU DO NOT WISH TO SPRAY.
Onceyou haveset upand areready tospray, switchon theunit. Nopaint willbe sprayedfrom thegun untilthe triggeron thespray gunis pulled.
Before starting any work on spraying actual objects we suggest you spend a small amount of time practicing on cardboard or newspaper until you
havegot usedto howthe gunworks.
OPERATION
Thegun has 3 different spraypatterns – Horizontal, Verticaland Round (Fig.2). The horizontal andvertical are recommended for largesurfaces. The
roundspray isused forsmall objectsor forareas -such ascorners –that aredifficult toreach. Tochange thespray patternsimply rotatethe AirCap
(2)until itclicks intothepositions asshown in(Fig.2).The overallsize oftheselected spraypattern canbevaried byturning theAirCap Ring(1). When
viewedfrom thefront, rotateit clockwiseto increasethe patternsize, oranti-clockwise toreduce thepattern size.
SPRAYPATTERNS
YourSpray Stationcan beused witha widevariety ofpaints, stainsand coatingssuch aslatex, deckand fencestain, sealers, varnishes, wood
preservatives,enamels, oiland water-basedpaints andautomotive paints.
However, some materialscannot besprayed sopleasecheck therecommendation ofthe manufacturerbefore buyingthe paint. If amaterialrefers to
brushapplication onlythen itusually cannotbe sprayed.
THISUNIT CANNOT BE USED FORTEXTURED PAINTS. USE OF THESE MATERIALS WILL CAUSE PREMATURE WEAR, WHICH WILL VOID
YOURWARRANTY. TO OBTAINTHE BEST RESULTS FROM YOUR SPRAY STATION,PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
BEFOREUSE.
