Serial interfaces are necessary if your computer is not equipped with a parallel interface or if you need an interface that conforms to the Current Loop standard instead of the RS-232C. In addition, all available serial interface boards provide user-selectable baud rates and data word structures. These interfaces also offer some combi- nation of the following features: X-on/X-off data communication protocol, loopback self-test modes, and data buffers that increase the printer’s buffering capacity to either 32 Kbytes or 128 Kbytes.

If you are still unsure whether you need an optional interface, or would like to know more about interfaces, contact your Epson dealer.
