3.2 AntennaThe performance of the facsimile receiver is directly related to the antenna installation . In general,
the antenna should be installed as high as possible on the vessel , free from the influence of nearb y
antennas, rigging and masts. B e sure to locate the antenna we ll away from TX antennas and n oise
generating equipment. Pay particular attention to the antennas of MF and HF radio equipment -
they can damage the facsi mile re ceiver throug h induct ion. (For bet ter pro tecti on agai nst indu ction,
use the preamp unit.)
The FAX-408 can use the following antennas:
• Preamp unit FAX-5 (optional supply) + 2.6 m whi p antenna (optional supply)
• Whip antenna (6 m, optional supply)
• Wire antenna (local supply)
3.2.1 General antenna connection
Connect the antenna to the facsimile receiver as shown below.
