3.1 Main Unit

The main unit may be moun ted on a tabletop or a bulkhe ad, using 5×25 self-tapping s crews (sup-
plied).
When choosing a mount ing location, consider the following points:
It is essential that the mounting surface is flat, otherwise blurred record ings may result, a s in the
example below. If it is necessary to level th e unit, insert flat wa sher (sup plied) b etween un it and
mounting surface at appropriate loc at io n(s).
Locate the unit out of direct sunlight be cause of heat that can build up inside the ca bin et.
For bulkhead mounting, be sure the m ou nting location is strong enough to suppo rt the unit
under the vibration normally encountered on board the vessel.
Choose a location where vibration and shock are minimal.
Choose a location where the cont rol panel can be easily operated.
Leave sufficient space around the unit for servicing and maintenance. Refer to the outline
drawing for recommende d maintenance space.
Locate the unit away from areas subject to water splash and rain.
A magnetic compass will be disturbed if the unit is placed too close to it. Separate the unit fro m
a magnetic compass by the distance not ed on page iii to prevent interference to the com pass.
