Using the extended desktop

If your computer has a video card installed, you can use a second monitor to increase the size of your Windows desktop. You can use the additional desktop space to accommodate additional windows.

To turn on extended desktop:

1Click Start, then click Control Panel. The Control Panel window opens. If your Control Panel is in Category View, click Appearance and Themes.

2Click/Double-click the Display icon. The Display Properties dialog box opens.

3Right-click any empty space on the desktop, then click Properties. The Display Properties dialog box opens.

4Click the Settings tab.

Help & Support

For more information about using an extended desktop, click Start, then click Help and Support. Type the phrase multiple monitors in the Search box, then click the arrow.

5Click the second monitor icon (labeled 2), then click Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor.

6Click Apply.

7You can open windows in your desktop and drag them over to the second monitor.
