Using Troubleshooting Chart

If you are experiencing a problem that is not listed in this chart, see your Great Dane dealer for service.

When you have checked all the possible causes listed and you are still experiencing the problem, see your Great Dane dealer.

Engine

NOTE: This engine troubleshooting chart covers items that are unique to the machine operation. See the engine manufacturer’s owner’s manual provided with your machine for detailed engine troubleshooting procedures.

Check

 

 

 

 

Poor Engine Performance

Dirt in fuel system or fuel is old; obtain fresh fuel from another

 

supplier before suspecting machine problems. Suppliers blend fuels

 

differently and changing suppliers will generally solve any

 

performance problems.

 

Fuel blended with alcohol or ether may contribute to performance

 

problems by causing gum and varnish deposits, especially if fuel is

 

stored for several weeks or more. Obtain fresh fuel.

 

 

Engine Will Not Start

Park brake not locked.

 

Control levers are not in neutral position.

 

PTO/clutch switch is in on position.

 

Fuel shutoff valve in off position.

 

Spark plug wire(s) loose or disconnected.

 

Improper fuel.

 

Plugged fuel filter.

 

Electrical problem. (See Electrical Troubleshooting section)

 

 

Engine Will Not Idle

Operator rising off the seat.

 

 

Engine Stops Or Misses When Operating On

Fuel tank less than half full of fuel.
