Letthe dishwasherrun through onefill and pumpout cycle,then letthedishwasherfill withwater thesecondtime.

Whenyouhearthe waterstop filling,unlatchthedoor and slowly openit.

Measurethe temperatureofthe waterin thebottomof thetub this way:

Removethe silverwarebasketand placea candyor meatthermometer in the watertowardsthe middleof thetub. If thetemperatureis less than 120°F,youwill notgetgood washingresults.Higherwater temperatureis neededto dissolve greaseand activatepowder detergents.

Yourwaterdepartmentcantell youhowhardyourwateris. So can yourcountyextensionagent. Or yourarea’swatersoftener company.Justcalland ask them howmany“grains”of hardnessis in yourwater.

Howmuchdetergentshouldyou use?Thatdepends.Is yourwater “hard” or “soft”?Withhardwater,

youneedextradetergentto get e dishesclean. Withsoftwater,you needlessdetergent.

Toomuchdetergentwith softwater o notonlywastes-money,it can be harmful.It can causea permanent cloudinessof glassware,called “etching.”An outsidelayerof glass

is etchedaway!Butwhytakea chancewhen it’seasyto findout the hardnessof yourwater.

Keepyourdetergentfreshand dry.Underthe sink isn’ta good placeto storedetergent.Toomuch moisture.Don’tputpowder detergentintothedispenseruntil you’rereadyto washdishes,either. (It won’tbe fresh OR dry.)

If’yourpowderdetergentgetsold or lulnpy9throwit away.It won’t washwell.Olddetergentoftenwon’t dissolve.

If youuse a liquiddishwasher detergent,theseprecautionsare not necessarybecauseliquiddetergents don’t“lump” as theyageor come * in contactwithwater.
