If you receive the card error indications and the card is formatted and is not full, the card may be damaged. Try re-formatting the card, or try a different card. For instructions on formatting a card, see below.

Formatting a memory card

Most CompactFlash memory cards are already formatted when you buy them. However, if you buy a memory card that has not been formatted, you need to format it before you can use it in the camera. If you insert a new, formatted card in the camera and it doesn’t work, try re-formatting it—it may have been formatted improperly. Also re-format cards that you previously used in a different camera, to optimize them for use with the HP PhotoSmart 315 digital camera.

Note: You can reuse a memory card that is full by formatting it. This erases all photos from the card. You can also use the Erase menu to delete one or all photos from a memory card. See “Erasing your photos” on page 31 for details.

To format a memory card:

Caution: Formatting erases everything stored on the memory card, including locked photos and files from other devices such as pocket PCs. Make sure you are formatting the right card! If you’re not sure, check the contents of the card before formatting.
