The following Bluetooth terms are used throughout this chapter.

Authentication

Must verify a numeric passkey before a

 

connection or activity can be completed.

 

 

Authorization

Must approve a connection or activity before

 

it can be completed.

 

 

Bluetooth neighborhood

Collection of Bluetooth devices.

Bonding (Paired

Create a trusted connection between your

devices)

created, the two devices become paired.

 

A trusted device does not require

Device address

Unique electronic address of a Bluetooth

discovered by another device.

 

 

Encryption

Method of protecting data.

 

 

Link key

Code used to securely pair devices.

 

 

Passkey

Code you enter to authenticate connections

 

or activities requested by other devices.

 

 

Personal Information

Collection of applications used to manage

Manager (PIM)

daily business tasks (e.g., Contacts,

 

Calendar, and Tasks).

 

 

Profiles

Collection of Bluetooth settings.

 

 

Service discovery

Determine which applications you have in

 

common with other devices.
