SECTION 2

HOW YOUR WATER SOFTENER WORKS

2B. SOFT WATER SERVICE AND REGENERATION

SERVICE

REGENERATION

When the softener is giving you soft water, it is called •Service". During service, hard water flows through the house main water pipe into the softener. Inside the softener resin tank is a bed made up of thousands of tiny, plastic resin beads (FIG. 4). As hard water passes through the bed, each bead attracts and holds the hardness minerals. This is called ion5exchanging. It is much like a magnet attracting and holding metals. Water without the hardness minerals (soft water) flows out of the softener and into the house soft water pipes.

After a period of time, the resin beads become coated with hardness minerals and they have to be cleaned. This cleaning is called regeneration or recharge. Regeneration is started at 2:00 a.m. by the electronic timer (see page 14). It takes place in 5 stages or cycles. These are:

NOTE:

If the CLEAN feature (page 7) is set to ON, additional backwash and fast rinse cycles occur before the fill cycle.

￿FILL: Salt, dissolved in water, is called brine. Brine is needed to clean the hardness minerals from the resin beads. To make the brine, water flows into the salt storage area during the fill stage as shown in FIG. 5. Fill cycle length depends on how much soft water making capacity you have used since the last regeneration. As you use more water, fill time increases so more brine is made. The greater amount of brine cleans more hardness minerals from the resin bed.

625.34857, 625.34859 specifications

The Kenmore 625.34859 and 625.34857 are notable water filtration systems designed for residential use, offering an efficient way to ensure clean and safe drinking water. These units are characterized by their advanced filtration technologies and user-friendly features that cater to the needs of modern households.

One of the main features of these models is their multi-stage filtration process, which effectively removes contaminants such as chlorine, sediment, and various impurities found in tap water. The filtration system includes a sediment filter, a carbon filter, and a reverse osmosis membrane, working synergistically to improve water quality significantly.

The reverse osmosis technology is a standout aspect of the Kenmore 625 series. This method utilizes a semi-permeable membrane that allows only water molecules to pass through while blocking larger molecules and contaminants. As a result, users enjoy cleaner, better-tasting water free of harmful substances. The filtration process is further complemented by a post-carbon filter that enhances the taste and removes any remaining odors.

Another significant characteristic is the high capacity of these systems. With a storage tank that provides ample water supply, families can conveniently access filtered water whenever needed without the frequent need for cartridge replacements. The POU (Point of Use) design allows for easy integration into kitchen setups, making it an ideal solution for cooking, drinking, and food preparation.

Furthermore, the Kenmore 625.34859 and 625.34857 come equipped with monitoring technology that alerts users when filter changes are needed. This feature eliminates the guesswork, ensuring that the systems operate at peak efficiency and maintain optimal water quality.

Installation of these units is user-friendly, often requiring only basic plumbing skills, making it accessible for DIY enthusiasts. Additionally, both models are designed for low maintenance, offering long service life and reliability, which makes them an excellent investment for those looking to elevate their home water quality.

In summary, the Kenmore 625.34859 and 625.34857 are advanced water filtration systems that combine effective multi-stage filtration, cutting-edge reverse osmosis technology, high capacity, and user-friendly features. Their ability to deliver purified water consistently makes them a popular choice for families looking to improve their drinking water quality and ensure their health and well-being.
