OPERATION

B-6

The SP-175T is suitable for .035" aluminum wire and

.023"– .035" stainless wire. Refer to Table B.1 for rec- ommended procedure settings. (Requires K586-1 Deluxe Gas Regulator kit and K664-2 Aluminum - Stainless Feeding Kit.)

CAUTION

It is important when changing between welding with steel wire and aluminum to exchange feeding components due to the lubricant applied to steel wire. Failure to do so may result in contaminated welds when welding aluminum.

CHANGING MACHINE OVER TO FEED OTHER WIRE SIZES

The SP-175T is shipped from the factory ready to feed 0.023” – .025" (0.9 mm) diameter wire. To operate the SP-175T with other sizes of wire, it maybe necessary to change the contact tip, drive roll and gun-liner con- figuration. For component configuration and place- ment. Refer to the MAINTENANCE section on these procedures.

3.Keep the cylinder valve closed, except when using the SP-175T. When finished welding:

a)Close the cylinder valve to stop gas flow.

b)Depress the gun trigger briefly to release the pressure in the gas hose.

c)Turn off the SP-175T.

WELDING WITH FCAW (Innershield)

When using the FCAW process, the correct drive roll and electrode polarity must be used. See Work Cable Installation in INSTALLATION section for changing the polarity.

Innershield welding kits K549-1 (for .035") and K549-2 (for .045") are also available.

OVERLOAD PROTECTION

Output Overload

The SP-175T is equipped with a circuit breaker which protects the machine from damage if a severe over- load occurs. The circuit breaker button will extend out when tripped. The circuit breaker must be manually reset.

Thermal Protection

The SP-175T has a rated output duty cycle of 30%. If the duty cycle is exceeded, a thermal protector will shut off the output until the machine cools to a reason- able operating temperature. This is an automatic func- tion of the SP-175T and does not require user inter- vention. The fan continues to run during cooling.

WELDING WITH GMAW (MIG)

Shielding Gas

When using the GMAW process, install the gas regu- lator and hose.

1.For CO2, an optional adapter is required. Open the cylinder valve very slowly. For argon-mixed gas, open cylinder valve slowly a fraction of a turn. When the cylinder pressure gauge pointer stops moving, open the valve fully.

2.If using a regulator with an adjustable flow meter, close the gun trigger and adjust the flow to give 15

20 cubic ft per hour (CFH) (7 – 10 I/min) [use 20

25 CFH (10 – 12 I/min) when welding out of position or in a drafty location.

Electronic Wire Drive Motor Protection

The SP-175T has built-in protection for wire drive motor overload.
