5-1. ABATTAGE
Abattage est le terme utilisé pour indiquer que l’on coupe (abat) un arbre. De petits arbres d’environ 15 à 18cm (6- 7”) de diamètre sont généralement abattus en une coupe. Les arbres plus grands exigent des entailles d’abattage. Ces entailles déterminent la direction de la chute.
NOTE: Direction of fall (B) is controlled by the notching cut. Before any cuts are made, consider the location of larger branches and nat- ural lean of the tree to determine the way the tree will fall.

A retreat path (A) should be planned and cleared as necessary before cuts are started. The retreat path should extend back and diagonally to the rear of the expected line of fall, as illustrated in Figure 5-1A.

H If felling a tree on sloping ground, the chain saw operator should keep on the uphill side of the terrain, as the tree is likely to roll or slide downhill after it is felled.

5-1. FELLING
Felling is the term for cutting down a tree. Small trees up to 6-7” (15- 18cm) in diameter are usually cut in a single cut. Larger trees require notch cuts. Notch cuts determine the direction the tree will fall.

Si se tala un árbol en un terreno con pendiente, el operador de la sierra de cadena deberá mantenerse en la parte de arriba del terreno, debido a que el árbol tiende a rodar o deslizarse hacia abajo después de que es talado. NOTA: La dirección de la caída (B) es controlada por el corte de ranura. Antes de que cualquier corte sea realizado, considere la localización de las ramas mas largas y la inclinación natural del árbol para determinar la forma en que caerá.
