Connecting a Device to the RS-232 Auxiliary PortThe RS-232 auxiliary port is used to connect to a peripheral device such as a scale or magstripe reader. When an RS-232 device is
connected to the scanner, an external power supply is necessary.
Figure 10-1. RS-232 Auxiliary Port Connection
To connect an auxiliary device to the RS-232 auxiliary port:
1. Connect the RS-232 interface cable to the auxiliary port of the scanner.
2. Connect the other end of the RS-232 cable to the serial port on the auxiliary device.
3. Connect the power supply.
4. Scan appropriate bar codes in this chapter to match the auxiliary device settings.
Interface cables vary depending on configuration. The connectors may be different from the examples
illustrated, but the steps to connect the scanner are the same. See Chapter 1, Getting Started for connection
information.
