MultiModemDSVD User Guide

1 Introduction

Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of your MultiModemDSVD! You have acquired not only one of the finest intelligent data, fax, and voice modems available, but a modem that can transmit voice and data at the same time. This user guide will help you to install, configure, test, and use your modem.

Product Description

The MultiModemDSVD modem incorporates both the ITU-T V.90 and the K56flexprotocols, both of which enable Internet connections at data rates up to 53K bps* over standard telephone lines. Using these protocols, Internet service providers (ISPs) are able to send data downstream to your computer at high speeds because data on the telephone network normally is converted from digital to analog only once before it reaches your modem. Upstream transmissions, and transmissions between client modems, are limited to data rates of 33.6K bps, as are downstream transmissions that are converted more than once on the telephone network.

The MultiModemDSVD offers interactive automatic dialing and command mode configuration. You can store up to four command line/telephone numbers of up to 40 characters each in the modem’s nonvolatile memory. The modem pulse or tone dials, and recognizes dial tones and busy signals for reliable call-progress detection. The modem can also detect AT&T calling card tones. It is FCC-Registered for connection to telephone networks without notification to the telephone company.

Digital simultaneous voice and data (DSVD) operation allows data transfer and voice conversation to occur simultaneously during a data connection. On a DSVD call, a headset or microphone and speaker can be used as the voice interface. Both local and remote modems must have compatible DSVD technology to support the DSVD function. The MultiModemDSVD is compatible with the industry-standard ITU-T V.70 DSVD specification.
