S170 Owner's Manual Addendum

New HTR 2 Learning Remote Control

Since the S170 was first introduced, we have been asked by many of our customers for a remote control that will operate their entire audio-video system. We have recently developed a product to answer this demand, the HTR-2. So, in addition to the S70 unit remote described in the Owners Manual, there is also an HTR-2 and an HTR-2 Owner's Manual included with this S170.

The HTR-2 should already be set for the S170 commands, but if for some reason it isn't (or has been inadvertently reset for another NAD component) it is very easy to reset the code library to the S170 commands. Press both the AMP and the AV PRESET key for 3 seconds and the LEARN LED will turn green. Use the numeric keys to enter 102, and press ENTER to save the selected S170 code library.

New V3.03 Operating System Software

One of the benefits of the S170 Preamp Processor is its capability for software upgrades. As NAD develops new features, we issue new operational software. This S170 has software Version 3.03 installed. There are several new features that are not described in the Owner's Manual that are outlined below, along with the page reference to the original instruction.

1.STANDBY (Page 10, #2) The STANDBY LED is now illuminated when the S170 is in either the ON or the STANDBY mode. It only goes dark when the POWER switch is in the OFF position.

2.SELECTING SOURCES (Page 20) The new V3.03 software has added an adjustable INPUT LEVEL CONTROL for the analog sources with an INPUT LEVEL METER to make adjustment easy and accurate. This circuit will automatically adjust the individual input to prevent overload of the A/D converter (converter of analog signals to digital, for surround processing) and does not require the user to make any adjustments. But you may want to adjust the input level manually so that each source plays at the same subjective loudness level. Since the automatic adjustment only looks at peak signals, sources with a wide dynamic range (classical music CDs) will sound subjectively softer than sources with a narrow or compressed dynamic range (rock music radio broadcasts).

To adjust INPUT LEVEL, first enter the OSD (On Screen Display) by pressing the RIGHT CURSOR KEY and scroll down to SOURCE SETUP with the DOWN ARROW KEY and press ENTER. From the SOURCE SETUP MENU select ANALOG SENSITIVITY and use the RIGHT/LEFT CURSOR KEY to adjust the INPUT LEVEL. The range of adjustment is -5dB to +10dB. You can also select ANALOG MON to view a vertical bar graph display (with Peak
