The camera automatically emphasizes the borders between light and dark areas of each picture, mak- ing the image seem sharper. The effects are too subtle to be seen in the camera monitor, but are visible when the picture is viewed on a computer

monitor or printed. mode gives you control over the amount of sharpening performed (in and scene modes, the camera adjusts sharpening according to the subject).

When taking pictures that will later be retouched, choose settings of Normal or Low.

At settings other than Auto, an image-sharpening icon appears in the monitor.
