The flash menu will help you to set the flash mode best suited the shooting conditions.

The flash has a range of 0.3–5.0 m (11.8 in.–16 ft. 4.9 in.) when the camera is zoomed out all the way. With maximum optical zoom applied, the range is 0.3–3.0 m (11.8 in.–9 ft. 10.1 in.). The following flash modes are available:

zAuto (default setting in L mode)

Flash fires automatically when lighting is poor.

AAuto with red-eye reduction Reduces “red eye” in portraits (c 25).

BOff

Flash will not fire even when lighting is poor.

JFill flash

Flash fires whenever picture is taken. Use to “fill-in” (illuminate) shadows and back-lit subjects.

D Slow sync

Flash illuminates main subject; slow shutter speeds are used to capture background at night or under dim light.

AUTO

The icon for the selected flash mode is displayed at the top of the monitor.

• When z is selected, the icon is only displayed for five seconds after the setting is applied.

• The flash mode applied in L mode is stored in the

camera’s memory even after the camera is turned off.
