3.1Hold the camera as shown.

Holding the Camera

Hold the handgrip in your right hand and cradle the camera body or lens with your left. Keep your elbows propped lightly against your torso for support and place one foot half a pace ahead of the other to keep you upper body stable.

3.2Frame a photo in the viewfinder with the main subject positioned in any of the three focus areas.

Using a Zoom Lens

Use the zoom ring to zoom in on the subject so that it fills a larger area of the frame, or zoom out to increase the area visible in the final photograph (select longer focal lengths to zoom in, shorter focal lengths to zoom out).

4Focus and shoot.

4.1Press the shutter-release button halfway. The camera will automatically select the focus area containing the subject closest to the camera and focus on this subject. If the sub- ject is dark, the AF-assist illuminator may light to assist the focus operation and the flash may pop up. The monitor will turn off.

When the focus operation is complete, the selected focus

area will be highlighted, a beep will sound, and the in- focus indicator (z) will appear in the viewfinder. The num- ber of exposures that can be stored in the memory buffer

(“r”; 32) is shown in the viewfinder display while the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
