Battery Life

Battery life varies with charge state and shooting conditions. The number of shots that can be taken with a fully-charged EN-EL9 battery (1000mAh) is approximately 470 shots in single-frame shooting mode and 2200 shots in continuous shooting mode. Battery life for single frame shooting mode is measured according to CIPA standards (lens cycled from infinity to minimum range and shutter released at default settings once every 30s; flash fired with every other shot). Battery life for continu- ous shooting mode is measured with image quality set to JPEG Basic, an image size of M, a shutter speed of ½50 s, the shutter release pressed halfway for three seconds and focus then cycled from infin- ity to minimum range three times; after six shots, the monitor is turned on for five seconds and then turned off; the cycle is repeated once exposure meters have turned off. All measurements are per- formed with an 18–55mm f/3.5–5.6GII ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens.

The following can reduce battery life:

• Using the monitor

• Taking RAW (NEF) photographs

• Keeping the shutter-release button pressed half-

• Slow shutter speeds

way

• Using vibration reduction with VR lenses

• Repeated autofocus operations

To ensure maximum battery performance:

Keep the battery contacts clean. Soiled contacts can reduce battery performance.

Use batteries immediately after charging. Batteries will lose their charge if left unused.

The battery level displayed by the camera may vary with changes in temperature.
