3 Ready the camera.

Hold the camera securely with both hands, being careful not to obstruct the lens, AF-assist illuminator, or microphone. Rotate the camera as shown at lower right when taking pictures in “tall” (portrait) orientation.

Shutter speeds slow when lighting is z poor; use of the built-in flash (0 77) ora tripod is recommended.4 Frame the photograph.

Position your subject in the center of the frame. At default settings, the camera will automatically detect portrait subjects and position the focus point accordingly (0 31).

5Focus.Press the shutter-release button halfway to focus. If

the subject is poorly lit, the flash may pop up (0 77) and the AF-assist illuminator (0 2) may light to assist the focus operation.

If the camera is able to focus, the selected Focus area focus area will be highlighted in green

and a beep will sound (a beep may not sound if the subject is moving).

If the camera is unable to focus, the focus area will be displayed in red.
