When this function is enabled, status information is automatically sent to the host whenever the
printer status changes (such as when the cover is opened, paper runs out, or an error occurs).

mer's Technical Reference manual (Star Line Mode, Star Page Mode, and ESC/POS Mode).
*2 NSB Function
When this function is enabled, status information is sent automatically whenever the printer
enters into reverse forwarding mode.
