Panasonic has more than 320,000 employees and boasts operations in almost every country on the planet. Taking this into account, Panasonic is a global company in every sense of the word and, as a major manufacturer, it takes its environmental and corporate citizenship responsibilities seriously. Recognising its obligation to nurture and protect the environment on a global scale, the Panasonic management have added stringent ecological goals to its GP3 three-year business plan. In parallel with steady growth and profitability, Panasonic businesses will also be measured on the extent to which they are able to reduce the impact on the environment due to operations and its products.

PANASONIC ECO IDEAS DECLARATION

In addition to adding major environmental metrics to the GP3 business plan, Mr Fumio Ohtsubo, President of Matsushita Electric Industrial, recently announced the Panasonic Eco Ideas declaration comprising three pledges:

1.We will produce energy efficient products

2.We will reduce CO2 emissions across all our manufacturing sites

3.We will encourage the rollout of environmental activities worldwide

So what do these pledges mean in practice?

ENERGY EFFICIENT PRODUCTS

Additionally, Panasonic aims to deliver greener products. This entails not only using sustainable materials or building recyclability into the product design – but also ensuring that the products efficiently conserve energy. Panasonic aims to increase the number of products with top-level, energy-efficient performance whilst phasing out products with low energy efficiency.
