High-bandw idth Digital Co ntent Protectio n. This is
a specifi cation that provides a secu re transmissio n
of digital conte nts between dif ferent devices (to
prevent unaut horized copyrigh t.)
HDMI
High-Defi nition Multimed ia Interface (HD MI) is
a high-speed di gital interf ace that can transm it
uncompressed high defi nition video and digital
multichanne l audio. It deliver s high quality pic ture
and sound quali ty, completely free f rom noise.
HDMI is fully bac kward-compa tible with DVI.
As required by t he HDMI standa rd, connecting to
HDMI or DVI produ cts without H DCP (High-
bandwidth Di gital Content Pr otection) will resu lt in
no Video or Audio ou tput.

JPEG
A very common dig ital still pic ture format. A st ill-
picture dat a compression sys tem proposed by the
Joint Photogr aphic Exper t Group, which featu res
small decrea se in image quality in s pite of its high
compression r atio. Files are re cognized by their fi le
extens ion ‘.jpg’ or ‘. jpeg.’

LAN (Local Are a Network)
A group of linked dev ices in a company, school
or home. Indica tes the boundari es of a particular
network.
Local storage
This storage a rea is used as dest ination for stor ing
additional con tents from BD- Live enabled BD -
Video.

MP3
A fi le format wi th a sound data compr ession
system. MP3 i s the abbreviatio n of Motion Picture
Expert s Group 1 (or MPEG-1) Audio L ayer 3. With
the MP3 format , one CD-R or CD- RW can contain
about 10 times mor e data than a regula r CD.

PBC
Playback Contr ol. A system wher e you navigate
through a Vide o CD/Super VCD with on -screen
menus that are r ecorded onto the dis c. You can
enjoy interac tive playback and sea rch.
PCM
Pulse Code Modul ation. A digital a udio encoding
system.

Region code
A system that a llows discs to be played on ly in the
region design ated. This unit onl y plays discs that
have compatible r egion codes. You can fi nd the
region code of your un it on the product l abel. Some
discs are compat ible with more tha n one region (or
ALL regions.)

WMA
Windows Media™ Audio . Refers to an audio
compression tec hnology develope d by Microsoft
Corporati on. WMA data can be e ncoded with
Windows Media pl ayer version 9 or Wind ows
Media player for Wi ndows XP. Files are recogni zed
by their fi le extension ‘.wma.’
