High-Voltage Pre-out
Pioneer’s High-Voltage Pre-out maxi mizes signal st rength
to your amp. The benefits are superior dy namics, crisp er
highs, more full-bodied bass, and a hig her signal-to -noise
ratio for minimal noise interference att ributable to
connections.
IP-Bus Control
The IP-Bus connections on Pioneer head units allow the
user to connect optional source units such as a T V tuner,
DVD player, Multi-CD player or even an iPod and crea te
a true mobile multimedia center.

that dramatically reduces the amount of data n eeded to
convey high-quality digital audio.
MOSFET 50 W × 4
Details on page 27.
MP3
Popular compression format that allows large a mounts of
audio files to be stored onto one CD-R/ RW disc. Pionee r
players come equipped with bufferin g capabilitie s, so they
are all able to handle data rates from 16 kbps and VB R
(Variable Bit Rate) recording.
RCA Pre-out
The standard connection system to carr y sound
from a headunit to an amplifier or equaliz er. RCA
pre-outs provide easy output for connection to an
outboard amplifier.
Subwoofer Control
A function built into the headunit allows ad justment
of subwoofer frequency.
Supertuner® IIID+/Supertuner® IIID/
Supertuner® III™/Supertuner®
Beyond the minimal sound interference an d resistance to
Three Signal Intermodulation (TSI) of P ioneer’s Supe rtuner®
line, Supertuner® IIID advanced analog and digital blocks
assure sound superiority and smoothly e xtend recept ion.
Supertuner® IIID+ features FM Multi-path Canceller for
improved stereo separation; AM Noise Canceller with
Hi-Speed Gate control counteracting ex ternal noise; a nd
Automatic Reception Control to strengthen w eak signals.
Compact Disc Digital Video
Compact Disc Digital Video is comprise d of animated,
or moving, images compressed in MPEG 1 format o n a
Video CD.
DVD-R/RW Compatibility
Pioneer DVD players can playback large- capacity
DVD-R/RW discs.
Dolby® Digital
This breakthrough technology offe rs “5.1 channels”—f ive
discrete channels (front left and right, c enter, and rear lef t
and right) spanning frequencies from 20 Hz to 2 0 kHz, plus
a low-frequency effects channe l dedicated to fr equencies
of 120Hz or below. These create an acous tic environme nt
in which sound seems to move all around the listen er,
for supremely dramatic surround sound re production .
Dolby Pro Logic® II
Converts sound from 2-channel recorded s ources (i.e. CD,
MD, TV/FM broadcast, Video, Game, etc.) i nto 5.1-channel
surround sound using matrix decode techn ology, so it is
easy to enjoy sound to more multi-dimensio nal effect .
DTSTM (Digital Theater Systems)
Six-channel DTS sound captures the glory o f digital
surround sound. Featuring low data compression and
a high data transfer rate, DTS technology ensu res
excellent localization throughout a vast frequency
and dynamic range.
DVD Audio/Video
In addition to playing video DVDs, the DVD -Audio format
provides audio fidelity far superio r to that of normal CD s.
In addition to audio in stereo and multi-ch annel surroun d
sound, DVD Audio discs can hold artist bio s, background
information, lyrics and liner notes.
DVD Video
DVD technology ensures second-to-n one picture qu ality.
Ultra-sharp digital picture and surr ound sound brin g
impressive cinema into your car. According to its so ftware
format, a DVD is packed with useful benefi ts such as
multiple languages, soundtracks, subtitles and support
for various multi-channel audio encoding technologies
including DTSTM and Dolby® Digital.

PAL, PAL-M, NTSC and SECAM are TV reception standard s.
Touch Panel Operation
Details on pages 7 and 12.
DivX® Digital Media
Among the world’s most popular video techn ologies, the
DivX digital format, based on MPEG-4 dat a compression
standards, is doing for video what MP3 did for a udio—
it lets anyone create, share and play video in the f orm
of downloadable files that can be quickl y, conveniently
exchanged among PCs and on the Internet with out
compromising the quality and integrit y of original
source material.
AUX-In Connection
Details on pages 10, 15 and 27.
BBE® digital
BBE® adds a longer delay time to the lower freque ncies
and slightly “boosts” the high range which t ends to
become attenuated, so that it recovers its na tural
articulation. The result: greater live presence with the
brilliance and clarity of the original so und.
WMA (Windows Media™ Audio)
WMA is a music compression format developed
by Microsoft Corporation. It uses the late st coding
technologies to compress an original audi o track,
minimizing file sizes while maintainin g good audio
quality, even at rates as low as 64k bps.
Bass Boost
Bass boost offers a choice among bass leve ls, spanning
the range from 0dB to 12 dB in 2 dB increme nts, for each
speaker (including subwoofer) of a system . This provides
more control over the overall balance of sound, t o suit
listener taste and style of music.
Class-FD ICEpower Amplifiers
Details on page 38.
High Pass Filter
Low-range sound is filtered off accord ing to user-set
cut-off frequency. Mid- and high- range sounds a re
transferred to the speaker.
Low Pass Filter
Mid- and high-range sounds are filter ed off accordi ng to
user-set cut-off frequency. Low-r ange sound is tra nsferred
to the woofer.
RCA Input
RCA input can be connected with headunit featuring RCA
output for preamp signal.
RCA Input/Output
RCA input can be connected with a headunit f eaturing
RCA output for preamp signal. RCA output can be
connected with additional amplifie rs for a multi-a mp
system configuration.
Speaker Level Inputs
This allows a Pioneer amplifier to be conne cted to an OEM
radio without requiring costly add-o n adapters. Th e added
flexibility allows your Pioneer amp lifier to be a pa rt of your
system as it grows.
Air Suspension System
Details on pages 45 and 49.
KEVLAR® Brand Fiber
Characterized by lightness, strength , and low resonan ce
to powerful input, KEVLAR® Brand Fib er is excellent fo r
speaker diaphragms, helping to produce m ore detailed ,
accurate sound.
VCCS (Voice Coil Cooling System)
Typically, the longer and louder you play your sub woofer,
the hotter it gets. This changes its elec trical and me chanical
characteristics and adversely af fects sound q uality. Pione er’s
Voice Coil Cooling System (VCCS) draws heat away from
the inside of the subwoofer, reducing tempera tures by up
to 30˚C. In the simplest terms, it keeps your sound cr isp
and your subwoofer from losing its cool.
IMPP (Injection-Molded Polypropylene)
Composite Cone
Pioneer uses a special injection moldi ng process rathe r
than “pressing” polypropylene speake r cones. This pro cess
ensures uniform cone thickness for superi or linearit y and
clarity. What’s more, Pioneer’s “Composite ” technology
guarantees the perfect mix of polypr opylene and car bon
fiber, graphite and other materials to optim ize the speaker
cone for its specific application (woo fers, midran ges,
tweeters, etc.).
