LIMBING
SLimb a tree only afterit is cut down.
SLeavethe larger limbs underneath the
felled tree to supportthe tree as you
work.
SStartat the base of the felled tree and
worktoward the top, cutting branches
and limbs. Remove small limbs with
one cut.
SKeep the tree between you and the
chain.
SRemove largerbranches with the cut-
tingtechniques described in BUCKING
WITHOUTA SUPPO RT.
SAlways use an overcut to cut small
and freely hanging limbs. Undercut-
tingcould cause limbs to fall and pinch
the saw.
PRUNING
WARNING : Limitpruning to limbs
shoulder height or below. Do not cut if
branchesare higher than your shoulder.
Get a professionalto do the job.
SMake your first cut 1/3 of the way
throughthe bottom of the limb.This cut
will make the limb sag so that it falls
easily on thesecond cut.
SNext make a second cut all the way
through the limb.
SFinishthe pruningoperation by using
an overcut so that the stump of the
limb protrudes 1 to 2 inches from the
trunkof the tree.
