Replacethe guide bar when the groove
isworn, the guide bar is bent or cracked,
orwhen excess heating or burring of the
rails occurs. If replacement is neces-
sary,use only the guidebar specified for
yoursaw in the repair parts list or on the
decal locatedon the chain saw.
LUBRICATION

SCheck bar and chain oil before use
and every15 minutes while operating
the saw. See GUIDE BAR AND CHAIN
OILunder the OPERATION section.
INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND
LABELS
SAfter each use, inspect complete unit
forloose or damaged parts. Clean the
unitand labels using a damp cloth with
a milddetergent.
SWipe off the unit and labels with a
clean dry cloth.
SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
CHAIN SHARPENING
WARNING: Improper chain sharp-
ening techniques and/or depth gauge
maintenance will increase the chance of
kickbackwhich can resultin serious injury.
WARNING: Wear protective gloves
when handling chain. The chain is sharp
and can cutyou even when it is not mov-
ing.
Conditions which indicate the need for
chain sharpening:
SReduction in sizeof wood chips. The
sizeof the wood chip will decrease as
the chain gets dulleruntil it becomes
more likea powder than a chip. Note
that dead or rotted wood will not pro-
duce a good chip.
SSaw cuts toone s ideor at an angle.
SSawhas to be forced through the cut.

TO SHARPEN CHAIN:
1. Move ON/STOP switch to the STOP
position.
2. Check chain for proper tension. Ad-
justc hain tension if necessary.See
CHECK CHAIN TENSION section.
3. Sharpen cutters.
STo sharpen the cutters,position
the file holder level (90˚) s o that it
restson the top edges of the cut-
terand depth gauge.
NOTE: The chain has both left
and righthand cutters.

SSharpen cutterson one s ide ofthe
chain first. File from the inside of
each cutter to the outside. Then,
turn the chain saw around and re-
peat the process for the other side
of the chain.

2 or 3 strokes per cuttingedge.
SKeep all cutters the same length
when filing.
