Undercutting involves cutting on the
underside of the log with top of saw
againstthe log. When undercuttinguse
light upward pressure. Hold saw firmly
and maintain control. Thesa w will tend
to push back towardyou.
WARNING: Never turn saw upside
down to undercut. The saw cannot be
controlled in this position.
Always make your firstcut on the com-
pression side of the log. Thecompres-
sion side ofthe log is where the pressure
of the log’sweight is concentrated.

LIMBING AND PRUNING
WARNING : Bealert for and guard
againstkickback. Donot allowthe mov-
ingchain to contact any other branches
or objects at the nose of the guide bar
whenlimbing or pruning. Allowingsuch
contact can resultin serious injury.
WARNING : Never climb into a tree
to limb or prune. Do not standon lad-
ders,platforms, a log, or in any position
which can cause you to lose your bal-
ance or controlof the saw.
IMPORTANTPOINTS
SWatch out for springpoles. Spring-
poles are small sizelimbs which can
whip toward you or pull you off bal-
ance. Use extreme caution when cut-
ting smallsize limbs.
SBe alert for springback from any
branches that are bent or under pres-
sure.Avoid being struckby the branch
or the saw when the tension in the
wood fibersis released.
SFrequently clear branches out of the
way to avoid trippingover them.
