CHECK FOR DAMAGED OR

WORN PARTS

Contact an authorized service dealer for re-
placement of damaged or worn parts.
SON/STOP Switch -- Ensure ON/STOP
switch functions properly by pushing and
releasing the switch. Make sure engine
stops. Wait5 s econds before attempting to
restart unit to allow switch to reset. Restart
engineand c ontinue.
SFuel Tank-- Discontinue use of unit if fuel
tank shows signs of damage or leaks.
SDebris Shield --D iscontinue use of unit if
debris shield is damaged.

INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND

LABELS

SAfter each use, inspect complete unit for
looseor damaged parts. Cleantheunit and
labelsusing a damp c loth with a mild deter-
gent.
SWipeoff unit w ith a clean dry cloth.

CLEAN AIR FILTER

A dirty air filter decreases engine perform-
ance and increases fuel consumption and
harmful emissions. Always clean after ev ery
5hour s of operation.
1. Clean the cover and the area around it to
keep dirt from falling into the carburetor
chamber when the cover is removed.
2. Remove parts by pressingbutton to re-
lease air filter cover.
NOTE: To avoid creating a fire hazard or
producingharmful ev aporative emissions, do
notclean filter in gas olineor other flammable
solvent.
3. Wash the filter in soap and water.
4. Allow filter to dry.
5. Replace parts.

MUFFLER AND SPARKARREST -

ING SCREEN

WARNING : The muffler on this prod-
uct contains chemicals known to the Stateof
California to cause cancer.
Asy our unit is used, carbon deposits build up
on the mufflerand s park arresting screen.
For normal homeowner use, however, the
mufflerand spark arr esting screen will not re-
quire any service. After 50 hours of use, we
recommend that your muffler be serviced or
replaced by your authorized service dealer.

REPLACE SPARKPLUG

Replace the spark plug each year to ensure
the engine starts easier and runs better. Set
spark plug gap at 0.025 inch (0.6 mm). Igni-
tion timing is fixed and nonadjustable.
1. Twist, then pull off spark plug boot.
2. Remove spark plug from cylinder and
discard.
3. Replace with Champion RC J-6Y spark
plugand t ighten securely with a 3/4 inch
(19 mm) socket wrench.
4. Reinstall the spar k plug boot.

EDGER BLADE MAINTENANCE

WARNING : The blade will continue
to spin after the engine stops or after the
throttle trigger has been released. Toavoid
serious injury, make sure the blade has
stopped coasting and disconnect the spark
plug before performing work on the blade.
WARNING : Always replace a blade
that is bent, warped, cracked, broken, or
damagedin any other way. Neverattempt to
straighten and reuse a damaged blade. Use
only specified replacement blade. Wear pro-
tective gloves when handling or performing
maintenanceon the blade to help avoid injury.
SThe blade is reversible. Whenthe cutting
edge on one side becomes worn, turn the
blade over (see BLADE REPLACEMENT
in the SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
section).
SCheck blade for flatness periodically. Lay
the blade on a flat surface to inspect for
flatness.Throw away a blade that is not flat.
