CARBURETORIDLE SPEED

ADJUSTMENT

WARNING: Keep others away w hen
makingidle speed adjus tments. Thetrimmer
heador any optional attachment will be spin-
ningduring most of this procedure. Wearyour
protective equipment and observe all safety
precautions. After making adjustments, the
trimmer head or any optional attachment
must not move/spin at idle speed.
The carburetor has been carefully set at the
factory.Adjustments may be necessary if you
notice any of the following conditions:
SEngine will not idle when the throttle is
released.
SThe trimmer head or any optional
attachment moves/spins at idle.
Makeadjus tments with the unit supported so
the cutting attachment is off the ground and
will not make contact with any object.
Holdthe unit by hand while running and mak-
ingadjustments . Keepallpar ts of your body
awayfrom the cutting attachment and muffler.

Toadjust idle speed:

Allowengine to idle. Adjust s peed until engine
runs without trimmer head or any optional at-
tachmentmoving or spinning (idle too f ast) or
engines talling (idle speed too slow).
STurn idle speed screw clockwis e toinc rease
engine speed if engine stalls or dies.
STurn idle speed screw counter clockwise to
decreaseengine s peed if trimmer head or any
optional attachment moves or spins at idle.
WARNING : Recheck the idle speed
after each adjustment. Thetrimmer head or
any optional attachment must not move or
spinat idle speed to avoid s erious injury to the
operator or others.

STORAGE
WARNING: Perform t he following
steps after each use:
SAllowengine to cool before s toring or trans-
porting.
SStore unit and fuel in a well ventilated area
where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or
open flames from water heaters, electr ic
motors or switches, furnaces, etc.
SStore unit with all guards in place. Position
unit so that any sharp object cannot acci-
dentally cause injury.
SStore unit and fuel well out of the reach of
children.

SEASONAL STORAGE

Prepareunit for s torage at end of season or if
it will not be used for 30 days or more.
Ify our unit is to be stored for a period of time:
SCheck entire unit for loos e screws or nuts.
Replacean y damaged, worn or broken par ts.
SClean the entire unit before lengthy
storage.
SStore in a clean dry area.
SInspect the blade shield area and clean any
dirt, grass, leaves, or debris that has col-
lected. Ins pect the blade and blade shield; re-
place a blade that is bent, warped, crack ed,
broken or damaged in any other way.
SLightly oil external metal surfaces.
SApplya coating of oil to the entire sur face of
the blade; wrap it in heavy paper or cloth.

FUEL SYSTEM

TIONsec tion of this manual, see message la-
beledI MPORTANTr egarding the use of ga-
sohol in your engine.
Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alternative in
minimizingthe formation of fuel gum deposits
durings torage. Add stabilizer to the gasoline
inthe fuel tank or fuel s torage container. Fol-
low the mix instructions found on s tabilizer
container.Run engine at least 5 minutes after
adding stabilizer.
HELPFUL TIP
Duringstor age of your gas/
oilmixture, the oil will sepa-
rate from the gas.
We recommend that you
shake the gas can weekly
toinsure proper blending of
thegas andoil.

ENGINE

SRemoves park plug and pour1 teas poonof
40:1,2-cyc le engine oil (air cooled) through
the spark plug opening. Slowly pull the
starter rope 8 to 10 times to distribute oil.
SReplacespark plug with new one of recom-
mendedty pe and heat range.
SClean air filter.
SCheck entire unit for loose sc rews, nuts,
and bolts. Replace any damaged, broken,
or worn parts.
SAt the beginning of the next season, use
onlyfresh fuel having the proper gasoline to
oil ratio.

OTHER

SDo not store gasoline from one season to
another.
SReplaceyour gas oline can if its tarts to rust.
