SAlignholeinthedustcupwith thehole inthe sideofthegearboxby rotatingthedustcup.
S Insert a small screwdriver into aligned holes. This will keep theshaft fromturning
while tightening trimmer head.

SWhile holding the screwdriver in position, thread trimmer head onto the shaft in the
direction shown on thedecal. Tightenuntil secure.
NOTE: The retaining washer must beposi- tionedwiththeraisedsectionfacingtowardthe gearbox.

NOTE: If your unit has been assembled for trimmerheaduse,refertothesectionATTACH-
ING THEPLASTICSHIELDANDTRIMMER HEAD and reverse the steps to remove the
plastic shield and trimmer head before you
mountthemetalshieldandblade.Storethese partsforfutureuse.Neverusethetrimmerhead
with the metal blade installed.
ASSEMBLY OF THE METAL SHIELD
DANGER: The metal shieldmust beprop- erly installed on the tool anytime the tool is
used with the blade. The forward top of the metal shield helps toreduce theoccurrence
ofbladethrustwhichcancauseseriousinjury
such as amputation to the operator or by- standers. Failure to install the shield in the
position shown canresult inserious injury to
theoperator.Thelengthof theshield mustbe aligned with the length of thetube. Theblade
is sharp and can cut you. Be sure to wear gloves while working with blades.
SIf your unit has a plastic cover over the threads onthe shaft,remove thecovering to expose the threads.
STurnunitover (threads onshaftfacingup), place the metal shield over the gearbox, and align the screw holes.

SInsert the 4 mounting screws through the bottom of the shield. Thread them into the
gearbox.Tightenevenly andsecurelywith one of the hex wrenches provided.

WARNING:Do notuse any blades, or fas- teninghardwareother thanthe washers and nuts illustrated in the following illustrations. Thesepartsmustbeprovidedby WeedEater,
and installed as shown below. Failure touse proper parts cancausethebladetofly offand
seriously hurt you or others.
NOTE:Thedustcupandretainingwasherare locatedonthegearboxandnotinthepartsbag.
SRemovetheretainer washerfromthegear- box,andleavethedustcuponthegearbox.
NOTE: It may be necessary to remove a plastic protective covering from the threadedshaftbeforeremovingtheretain- ing washer.

SInstallthebladeover thethreadedshaftex-
tendingfromthegearbox betweenthedust cup and the retaining washer. Make sure the raised part of the retaining washer is
facingthegearbox,andtheraised areafits into the hole in the center of the blade.
