DIFFICULTSTARTING(or starting a

floodedengine)

The engine may be flooded with too much
fueli f it has not started after 10 pulls.
Flooded engines can be cleared of excess
fuel by pushing the choke/fast idle lever in
completely (to the OFF CHOKE position)
andthen follow ing the warm engine starting
procedure listed above. Ensure the ON/
STOPswitch is in the ON position.
Startingcould require pulling the starter rope
handlemany tim es depending on how badly
theunit is flooded. Ifengine fails to start, refer

CHAINBRAKE

WARNING: If the brake band is
worn too thin it may break when the chain
brakeis triggered. With abroken brake band,
thechain brake will notstop the chain. The
chainbrake should be repl acedby an autho-
rizedservice dealer if any part is worn to less
than 0.020!(0.5 mm) thick. Repairs on a
chain brake should be made by anautho-
rized service dealer. Take your unit to the
place of purchase if purchased from a s er-
vicing dealer, or to the nearest author ized
master service dealer.
SThis saw is equipped with a chainbrake.
Thebrake i s designed to stop the chain if
kickback occurs.
SThe inertia--activated chain brake is
activatedif the front hand guard is pushed
forward, either manually (by hand) or
automatically (by sudden movement).
SIf the brake is already activated, it is
disengagedby pulling thefront hand guard
back toward the front handle as far as
possible.
SWhencutting with the saw, thec hainbrak e
must be disengaged.

weight of the saw to let the topof the guide
bar fall forward and contact the stump.
When the tip of the bar hits the stump, the
brakes hould activate.
CUTTING METHODS
IMPORTANTPOINTS
SCheck chain tension before first us e and
after 1 minute of operation. See CHAIN
TENSIONi n the ASSEMBLYsecti on.
SCut wood only. Do not cut metal, plastics,
masonry, non-woodbui lding materials, etc.
SStopthe saw i f the chain strikes a foreign
object. Inspectthe saw andrepair or r e-
place parts as necessary.
SKeepthe c hain out of dirt and sand. Evena
small amount of dirt will quickly dull a chain
andthusincrease thepossibility of kickback.
SPracticecutting a few small logs using the
followingtechniques to get the “feel” of us-
ing your saw before you begin a major
sawing operation.
SSqueeze the throttle trigger and allow
the engine to reach full speed before
cutting.
SBegin cutting with the saw frame
againstt he log.
SKeepthe engine at full speed the entire
time you are cutting.
SAllowthe chain to cut foryou. Exert only
light downward pressure. If you force
thecut, damage to thebar, chain, or en-
ginec an result.
