Dybdeskarphed

De portrætter eller billeder af opstillinger, som folk bedst kan lide, er dem, hvor baggrunden er ude af fokus, så motivet træder tydeligt frem. Afhængigt af fokusområderne kan et billede gøres uskarpt eller skarpt. Dette kaldes "lille DOF" eller "stor DOF".

Dybdeskarpheden er fokusområdet rundt om motivet. Et lille DOF angiver derfor, at fokusområdet er smalt, og et højt DOF betyder, at fokusområdet er bredt.

Man kan tage et billede med en lille DOF, der tydeliggør motivet og gør resten af billedet sløret, ved at bruge et teleskopobjektiv eller ved at vælge en lav blændeværdi. Modsat kan du tage et billede med stor DOF, der viser alle elementer på et billede i skarp fokus, ved at bruge et vidvinkelobjektiv eller ved at vælge en høj blændeværdi.

DOF afhænger af blændeværdien

Jo bredere blænderen er (og specielt jo lavere blændeværdien er), jo lavere bliver DOF. Under forhold hvor de andre værdier (herunder lukkehastighed og ISO-følsomhed) er lige store, vil en lav blændeværdi give et billede med lav DOF.
