A zársebesség az az időtartam mialatt a zár kinyílik. A zársebesség módosításával számos érdekes effektust próbálhat ki. Az alacsony zársebesség hatására elmosódik a kép. Alacsony zársebesség használata esetén a képen érzékeltetheti a sebességet.

A gyors zársebesség a mozgások lefényképezéséhez szükséges. A gyors zársebesség hatására a képen megdermednek a mozgó alakok.
