Ava

Ava, auk, mis kontrollib, kui palju valgust kaamerasse sisse tuleb, on üks kolmest tegurist, mis määrab särituse. Apertuuri korpus sisaldab õhukesi metallpolaate mis avanevad ja sulgevad, et võimaldada valdusel apertuuri läbida ja kaamerasse siseneda. Ava suurus on tihedalt seotud foto heledusega: mida suurem on ava, seda heledam on foto; mida väiksem on ava, seda tumedam on foto.

Ava suurust esindab väärtus tuntud kui„F-number.“ F-number esindab objektiivi diameetri poolt lahutatud fookuskaugust. Näiteks, kui 50 mm fookuskaugusega objektiivi f-number on F2, on ava diameeter 25 mm (50 mm/25 mm=F2) Mida väiksem on f-number, seda suurem on ava.

Ava avanemist kirjeldatakse kui särituse väärtust. Särituse väärtuse suurendamine (+1 EV) tähendab, et valguse hulk kahekordistub. Särituse väärtuse vähendamine (-1 EV) tähendab, et valguse hulk läheb poole väiksemaks.
