If the squelch threshold is set to “High”, the transmission range will be reduced under unfavourable reception conditions.

The squelch should only be switched off for servicing purposes. With the squelch threshold set to “Low”, you switch the squelch off by keeping the DOWN rocker button pressed for 3 seconds.
