The aim should be to place the microphone as close as physi- cally possible to the source, to cut out unwanted surrounding sounds, allow a lower gain setting on the mixer and avoid feedback. Also a well-chosen and well-placed microphone should not need any appreciable equalisation.

Input Connections The monitor mixer will often share inputs with a front-of- house mixer and it is particularly important to ensure that the input connections provide complete isolation between the two consoles to avoid hum problems and possible degradation of the signal.
