INSTALLATION
Fitting Cast front panel (8901 / 8902 / 8903)
Ensure that the floor of the fireplace opening is level with the projecting hearth surface. If a cement infill is required to achieve this, do not proceed with the installation until the cement is completely dry.
Cover the surface of the hearth to protect it from damage during installation of the cast panel.
Protect the surfaces of the surround (mantelpiece) from damage when trial fitting of the panel.
Position the front panel centrally in the fireplace opening against the wall. Place the surround (mantelpiece) in position and, holding it firmly against the wall, pull the front panel forward until it touches the rear of the surround. The panel is now in the correct position and should be fixed. The surround can be removed while this is completed.
There are a number of ways of fixing the front panel, but a typical method is:-
Drill through the 4 corners of the main panel in a position that will be covered when the surround is in position. Drill holes in the wall in corresponding position, and secure the front panel with 75mm (3”) screws and
Never use strong Portland cement mortar in chimneys and fireplaces. A lime based mortar will allow expansion and movement and reduce the risk of cracking.
Wait until any cement or seals are dry before fitting a wooden surround. If the surround is wood, fix Stovax flat rope seal (Part No. 4953) to all surfaces that touch the cast iron panel. Place it into position ensuring that it is central, and secure it to the wall using flat brass brackets (mirror plates).

Safety
As with all fireplaces the surfaces will become very hot when in use, therefore due care should be taken when near the fireplace. If it is to be used in the presence of young children, elderly or infirm persons a suitable fireguard should be used. Care should also be taken with the placement of combustible items near the fireplace as conducted and radiated heat could cause a fire hazard.
Stovax offer a wide range of firescreens and sparkguards, along with a hearthgate system designed to offer full protection for a range of stoves and fireplaces. Your Stovax dealer can advise you on these products.

MAINTENANCE
For fully polished fireplaces Stovax Steel Cleaner (Part No. 2037) is recommended to keep them clean and rust free. If a fire is not to be lit for an extended period, it is advisable to coat with a light oil to prevent moisture in the air causing surface rust and pitting of the cast iron. This is important when plastering or other decorating work is being done.
