SM-1500は、1984年のSWR創業以来創始者Steve W. Rabeが築き上げてきた革新の 伝統を継承しています。当時は、多くのL.A.のトップ・ベーシストがライブでもレ コーディング・スタジオでのプレイバック・モニターと同等の高品位なサウンド を求めはじめた時期で、Rabe氏は彼らの意見やアドバイスを積極的に取り入れな がらベース・アンプのデザインにまったく新しいコンセプトを採用することによ り「SWRサウンド」が誕生しました。

PB-200™は初のチューブ・プリアンプ／ソリッドステート・パワーのハイブリッド・ ベース・アンプで、今ではクラシックとなっているSWRプリアンプとオーラル・エ ンハンサー回路を搭載しました。PB-200はクリスタル・クリアでハイファイなトー ンをライブとレコーディング両方の場面で得ることを可能にして、ベース・アンプ 界に革命を引き起こました。

その後も、SWRは進化を続けます。1985年、今や伝説となっているSM-400™アンプ リファイアーを発表。これは初のトゥルー・ステレオ・ベース・アンプで、パッシ ブとアクティブの楽器それぞれに対応した入力が用意され、ステレオのエフェクト ・ループが搭載されました。1987年には、高周波数用ツイーターを搭載したベース 用で初となる真のフルレンジ・スピーカーである、今なお業界標準の地位を確保し 続けている4x10 Goliathが発表されました。
