Using the MTS feature to select stereo/SAP broadcasts

The MTS (multi-channel TV sound) feature provides high-fidelity stereo sound. The MTS feature also can transmit a second audio program (SAP) containing a second language, music, or other audio information (when provided by individual stations).

When the TV receives a stereo or SAP broadcast, the word

“STEREO” or “SAP” appears on-screen every time the TV is turned on, the channel is changed, or RECALL is pressed.

Note: The MTS feature is not available when the TV is in VIDEO mode.

To listen to stereo sound:

1.Press MENU, and then press x or • until the AUDIO menu appears.

2.Press y or z to highlight MTS.

3.Press x or • to highlight STR.

You can leave your TV in STR mode because it automatically outputs the type of sound being broadcast (stereo or monaural). If the stereo sound is noisy, select MONO to reduce the noise. The word “STR” or “SAP” displays in yellow in the menu when the TV receives the signal.

To listen to SAP (if available):

1.Press MENU, and then press x or • until the AUDIO menu appears.

2.Press y or z to highlight MTS.

3.Press x or • to highlight SAP. You will hear the station’s second audio program (if available) from the speakers while viewing the original program’s picture. See note at right.

Note:

A second audio program (SAP) can be heard only on those TV stations that offer it. For example, a TV station might broadcast music (or another language) as a second audio program. If you have SAP on, you will see the current program on the screen but hear music (or the other language) instead of the program’s normal audio.

If you have SAP on and the station you are watching is not broadcasting a second audio program, the station’s normal audio will be output; however, occasionally there is no sound at all in this instance. If

this happens, set the MTS feature to STR mode.
