The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) uses a rating system to qualify motion picture content. Television broadcasters employ a similar rating system to qualify the content of television programs. The MPAA, Youth TV, and TV ratings work with the
MPAA Ratings
XFor adults only.
NC17 | Not intended for anyone 17 or under. |
RRestricted. Under 17 requires an accompanying parent or adult guardian.
PG13 | Parents strongly cautioned. Some material may not be appropriate |
| for children under 13. |
PG | Parental guidance suggested. Some material may not be appropri- |
| ate for children. |
GGeneral audience. Appropriate for all ages.
Youth TV Ratings
Y7, Y7FV Directed to older children. Programs rated Y7 are designed for children 7 and above. Programs in which fantasy violence may be more intense or combative than other programs in this category are rated Y7FV.
YFor all children. Programs rated Y are designed to be appropriate for all children.
TV Ratings
MA | Mature audience only. This program is specifically designed to be | |
