Chapter 2: Connecting your TV

About the connection illustrations

You can connect different types and brands of devices to your TV in several different configurations. The connection illustrations in this manual are representative of typical device connections only. The input/output terminals on your devices may differ from those illustrated herein. For details on connecting and using your specific devices, refer to each deviceÕs ownerÕs manual.

Connecting a digital CableCARDª

This digital television is capable of receiving analog basic, digital basic, and digital premium cable television programming by direct connection to a cable system providing such programming.

A security card (such as a digital CableCARDª), provided by your cable operator, is required to view encrypted digital programming.

Certain advanced and interactive digital cable services (such as video-on-demand, a cable operatorÕs enhanced program guide, and data-enhanced television services) will not work with the use of a CableCARDª and may require the use of a separate set- top box from your cable operator.

You will need:

one digital CableCARDª (contact your cable operator)

digital cable subscription service (contact your cable operator)

TV back panel

From digital Cable service (connect to ANT 1 only)

This cable should be connected to ANT 1 terminal directly. If you connect the cable via a VCR, the TV may not receive the signals correctly.

To view encrypted digital channels:

1.Connect your digital Cable TV cable to ANT-1.

2.With the front of the CableCARDª facing up, insert it into the CableCARDª slot on the back of the TV (see illustration below left).

3.After the CableCARDª is inserted, a CableCARDª option appears in the Applications menu, with informational screens provided by your digital CableCARDª service. See page 51 for additional information.

Note:

¥Always use the EJECT button to remove the CableCARDª. Never remove the CableCARDª by hand.

¥Never insert any object or card (including, without limitation, a PCMCIA card) other than a CableCARDª into the CableCARDª slot.

¥Always make sure the CableCARDª is facing the correct direction.

¥Connect the cable for your digital cable TV service to ANT-1 only.

¥When using a CableCARDª, channel programming is unnecessary because the CableCARDª automatically loads the cable channel list into the TVÕs channel memory (page 42).

¥The CableCARDª may take up to 5 minutes to ÒpairÓ with the TV and download channel information. CableCARDª information and channels will not be available until this process is completed.

CableCARDª technology, like all new and emerging technology, may from time to time experience compatibility issues due to the different ways in which television manufacturers and cable system operators implement the CableCARDª specifications.
