5. Pulls tarter rope handle sharply until engine
sounds as if it is trying to start, but do not
pull rope more than 6 times.
6. Asso onas engine sounds as if it is trying to
start, move choke lever to HAL F CHOKE
position.
7. Pull starter rope sharply until engine r uns,
but no more than 6 pulls.
NOTE:If the engine doesn’t star t after 6
pulls (at the HALF CHOKE pos ition),
move the choke lever to the FULL
CHOKE position and press the primer
bulb 6 times. Squeeze and hold the
throttle trigger and pull the starter rope 2
more times. Move the choke lever to the
HALFCH OKE position and pull the start-
errope until the engine runs , but nomore
than 6 pulls. If the engine still doesn’t
start, it is probably flooded. Proceed to
STARTINGA FLOODED ENGINE.
8. Oncethe engine star ts, allow it to run 10 se -
conds, then move the choke lever to the
RUN position. Allow the unit to run for 30
mores econds at RUN before releasing the
throttle trigger.
NOTE:If engine dies with t he choke le-
ver in the RUN position, move the choke
lever to the HALF CHOKE position and
pull the rope until engine runs, but no
more than 6 pulls.

STARTINGA WARM ENGINE

1. Move the choke lever to the HALF
CHOKE position.
2. Squeeze and hold the throttle trigger.
Keep throttle trigger fully squeezed until
the engine runs smoothly.
3. Pull starter rope sharply until engine r uns,
but no more than 6 pulls.
4. Allowengine to r un 15 seconds, then move
the choke lever to the RUN position.
NOTE:If engine has not star ted, pull starter
rope5 more pulls. Ifengine still does not run,
it is probably flooded.

STARTINGA FLOODED ENGINE

Flooded engines can be started by placing
thechoke lever in the RUN position; then, pull
the rope to clear the engine of excess fuel.
This could require pulling the starter handle
manytimes depending on how badly the unit
isflooded. If the unit still doesn’t start , refer to
TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE or call
1-800-554--6723.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

operated for longer than 1 minuteat full

WARNING : Alwayswearey e protec-
tion. Never lean over the trimmer head.
Rocks or debris can ric ochet or be throw n into
eyes and face and cause blindness or other
serious injury.
Do not run the engine at a higher speed than
necessary. The cutting line will cut efficiently
when the engine is run at less than full throttle.
Atlo wer speeds, there is less eng ine noise and
vibration. The cutting line will last longer and will
be less likely to “weld” onto the spool.
Always release the throttle trigger and allow t he
engine to return to idle speed when not cutting.
Tostop engine:
SRelease the throttle trigger.
SPush and hold the STOP switch in the
STOP position until the engine stops.

TRIMMER LINE ADVANCE

Thetrimmer line will advanc e approximately 2
inches (5 cm) each time the bottom of the
trimmerhead is tapped on the ground w ith the
engine running at full throttle.
The most efficient line length is the maximum
length allowed by the line limiter.Always keep
the shield in place when the tool is being oper-
ated.
Toadvance line:
SOperate the engine at full throttle.
SHoldthe trimmer head parallel to and above
the grassy area.
STapthe bottom of the tr immer head lightly on
the ground one time. Approximately 2 inches
(5 cm) of line will be advance d with each tap.
